Real WINTER Endless snow, dry freezing-cold weather, picturesque villages, exciting blue skies over snow-clad alps and pine trees covered in white. Luckily there's now a hotel in the former Kurhaus Val Sinestra where we can combine the quiet atmosphere of last century with the fun of skiing and good food at a reasonable price. Both Houses serve the modern, comfort-loving person with heated rooms and sanitary facilities close by; some of the rooms in the hotel even have their own toilet. We also offer cozy lounges, a bar, a library, a billiard- and pool table room, table tennis, a disco on the lowest floor of the former Kurhaus and a small ski-shop for renting, purchasing and assistance with snowboard or skis. Just so you don't get too comfortable, assistance with doing the dishes is appreciated and you are expected to set your own table - and leave your room reasonably tidy when you leave. The Hotel and Berghaus are located at 6 km (3.75 miles) from the village of Sent, 12 km (7.5 miles) from the town of Scuol, at approximately 1500 m above sea level. Nevertheless, do bring your bathing suit, as Scuol has a modern beautifully designed Kurbad (spa with pools and sauna) which you can enjoy after, or instead of, the slopes. ![]() What else? Motta Naluns, is a snow-certain area for all sorts of entertainment. There are no less than 80 square kilometres (50 sq. miles) of skiing slopes ("pistes"), including the 10 kilometres long (6.25 miles) "traumpiste" (dream-slope). There is something for everyone: from easy "blue" slopes to cross country tracks: from an altitude of 2800 metres (1.75 miles) all the way back to the Hotel - it is all there. The area is child friendly with babysitting facilities on the slopes and special family passes for the ski-school. In the wider area of Upper and Lower Engadin there are long stretches of Langlauf (cross country skiing) loipes and skating opportunities. Several loipes at lower altitudes (1250 m, 0.8 miles) are complemented by 6 km (3.75 miles) of high altitude loipes at a height of 2150 m (1.3 miles), which usually remain open until the end of the season. ![]() Walking is possible on specially prepared tracks, or on snowshoes through the untouched wilderness (where nothing happens yet it's never boring). What is also fun is the possibility to go downhill on a sledge, for instance in Ftan where the combination of ski-lift and rental-sledge provide you with an endless track of velocity and fun. Scuol is primarily a snowboarding area, with the first Snowboard school in Europe and two world championships. But you can also go skiing, "big footing", snow-bathing, night-skiing, parasailing, downhill biking, or spend the night on the slopes in a real igloo! Not comfortable at high altitudes? Scuol has an ice hall where you can skate, play ice hockey, or work out. All in all, you will be happy to return to the quiet of your hotel room at the end of the day. ![]() The relatively isolated location of the hotel (the access road is closed to all vehicles except our buses, pedestrians and horse-drawn sleighs) never turns out to be a problem, because of our excellent shuttle service to and from Scuol. We offer transport to and from the slopes several times a day. If you come by car, we advice you to park in one of the parking areas in Sent, from where we will take you to the hotel and back. However, we strongly suggest that you leave your car at home and come by plane and/or train - it can save you a lot of worries. Discount on skiing It is possible to get a 15% group discount on the cost of skiing, but only if you let us know in advance. This is not possible after you have arrived at the hotel. When we confirm your booking, we will send you application forms for this. The Hotel operates its own ski-shop where you can rent skis, shoes, snowboards and small sledges - but which is handy too for a quick "wax" service of your skis overnight.
